Mobile app development

A custom app for iOS and Android from a single codebase. Nimboo only builds cross-platform apps: two native apps are two builds, and every feature gets coded, tested and maintained twice. The app always needs a server behind it: a product Nimboo built, your own, or a new one contracted along with the app.

A published app still needs work. That's why there's monthly maintenance, which you can add whenever you like.

What's inside

An app has three layers.

What gets installed on the phone is the top layer. Underneath are two more and they're what make it work. When we say "product", we mean all three.

All of that infrastructure is built to measure, with no templates and no third-party dashboards. Each piece scales on its own, heavy work stays out of the user's way and a failure in one part doesn't drag the rest down. We work with continuous delivery, automated tests, review of every change, deployments you can roll back in minutes, and backups someone has actually restored. The repository, accounts and infrastructure are all in your name.

Security

A phone isn't a place you can trust.

The app runs on a device you don't control and travels over other people's networks. Anyone can download it and take it apart. So it's built as if someone were going to look inside.

  • No secrets inside the app Anyone can download it and take it apart, so it carries no keys and doesn't decide who can do what. That lives on the server, the one piece nobody else has their hands on.
  • Sessions in the phone's safe They're stored in the system's own encrypted store (the iOS Keychain, the Android Keystore), not in an app file. If a phone gets lost, the session is ended from the server.
  • All traffic encrypted Every exchange with the server is encrypted, airport Wi-Fi included. Unencrypted connections simply aren't accepted.
  • Only the permissions it needs Camera, location or contacts are requested only if a feature uses them and at the moment it's used. What isn't collected can't leak.

And the server behind it gets the same as any product: encryption, a firewall, abuse control and backups that have actually been restored.

What you get

Live on both stores.

One codebase for iOS and Android, with the whole publishing process handled by us, under your name.

  • Both storesApp Store and Google Play, with the listings written and the developer accounts in your name.
  • Sign-inAuthentication shared with the web app: the same account works in both.
  • NotificationsPush notifications, which is why most products end up wanting an app in the first place.
  • OfflineThe essentials keep working without signal and sync when it comes back.
  • VersioningA versioned API, so the old app keeps working for people who never update.
  • DocumentationA documented release process, so shipping a new version doesn't depend on a single person.

Why this way

One codebase for both platforms.

Cross-platform

A single codebase for iOS and Android costs less than two separate native apps, and every improvement gets built once.

What goes up to each store is a compiled native app, with the system's own components and access to the phone's hardware. Sharing code doesn't turn it into a website in a wrapper.

Built on your product

The app runs on the same API as the web app, so data, permissions and business rules are identical. Nothing to keep in sync by hand.

A published app still needs work. SDKs and store policies change and every OS release can break something. An app without maintenance eventually gets pulled from the stores. That's why we offer monthly maintenance from €390, with the price agreed up front. It's a separate contract and the decision is yours.
